Santina's Second Chances

Santina was recently released from prison a came to Sojourner Truth House (STH) through a second chance program. At STH, she immediately signed up for the career services employment program.

STH Career Services are offered to clients experiencing homelessness and low-income residents of Lake County. They include Employment and Entrepreneurship courses, classes in Microsoft Suite products, culinary training, a class in web-based design taught by a facilitator from Fluid Communications, and Certified Community Health Worker training in partnership with HealthVisions Midwest of Hammond.

Santina was recently asked to oversee one of the shelter programs and was given a housing voucher. Her excitement and positive outlook have given others in the program a lot of encouragement.

After attending a job fair, Santina received a call with a job offer to work with senior citizens. Overjoyed, Santina says, "I have had so many opened doors since coming to Sojourner Truth House. My life is forever changed.”
